Donald C. Shoudel, 71, died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The DeKalb County native retired in 1971 as an Army captain after 29 years and had served in World War II and the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Garrett, executive board member of American Legion Post 178 and past president of Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are his wife, Jane; daughters, Anne S. Hunt of Petersburg, Va., and Donna J. Shoudel of Sunnyvale, Calif.; sisters, LaDonna C. Shoudel of Garrett, Mary Lou DeWitt of Urbana, Ohio, and Martha J. Anderson of Fort Wayne; brothers, Carl W. of Palmetto, Fla., and Charles E. of Garrett; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are 1 p.m. tomorrow in D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, where calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be with military honors in Highland Park Cemetery.
