CUSSETA, GA. - Ellis Englebert, Jr., 86, of Cusseta, Ga. (Chattahoochee County), passed away Friday, November 17, 2017, resultant of a sudden illness. Interment will take place 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Alabama. The family will receive friends for the viewing at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, Ga., from 6-8 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2017.
Mr. Englebert, known to family and friends as "Jake" and "EJ", was born September 13, 1931 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. He served in and retired from the U.S. Army during which time he served in the Korean conflict, two tours in the Vietnam War, and received numerous meritorious awards and commendations. During his civilian life, he worked as a fabrication machinist for Tom's Foods in Columbus, Ga. until his final retirement and is a two-time cancer survivor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrie and Ellis Englebert of Brookwood, Ala. and brothers, John Englebert and Edward Englebert.
He is survived by his sister, brother, his daughter and two sons, a son-in-law and two daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
