Ralph Kenneth Quanstrom, 97, of Rockford, and a longtime resident of Galesburg; passed away on November 19, 2017 at River Bluff Nursing Home in Rockford. Born January 14, 1920; son of Edward John and Lillian (Lundholm) Quanstrom. He attended Altona High School, where he was a star basketball player, shot put and javelin thrower. He was nicknamed “Punk” by his high school buddies – a joke due to his 6”4”, 200 lb. size. United in marriage to Jean Buckingham on February 10, 1949. Ralph served in the United States Air Force in WWII in Italy. Lifelong member of the American Legion Post 285 in Galesburg; where he worked the fish and hamburger fundraisers and the VFW Post 9759 in Loves Park. Retired brick layer and member of the Brick Layers Union. He loved to play poker and gin rummy. Ralph watched basketball, golf and baseball and was a lifelong Cubs fan who enjoyed watching them finally win the World Series in 2016. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting. He won multiple horseshoe tournaments and was a skilled bowler in his younger days.

Survived by daughters, Susan (Mike) Duenser of Loves Park, Sandra LaDage and her friend, Bill Briggs of Pekin; grandchildren, Nicole (Adam Grant) Stram, Michelle (Ed) Watts, Anne (Michael) Osgood, Luke (Emily) Duenser; great-grandchildren, Kylie and McKinzee Stram, Nolan Grant, Jayden, Delvese and Tangela Watts, Elsie and Henry Osgood, Noah, Kennedy and Karis Duenser.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nora “Jean” Quanstrom, siblings, Herman (Agnes) Quanstrom, Frances (Gus) Schmidt, Avis (Edwin) Burton, Bud Swanson; 5 great-grandchildren, multiple aunts, uncles cousins; brother-in-laws, Hal (Lavere) Buckingham, Charles (Darlene) Buckingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the River Bluff staff, especially Dan, Char, Tim, Barb, Dan, Tonya, Alisa, Nicole, Erin, Ivy and Katie; along with the dining room staff, you know who you are; as well as the many residents who looked out for him.
