Clarence Rhea Horton, age 89, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at his residence. Mr. Horton was born in Hope, Arkansas to the late Clarence Issac Horton and Carmen Jones Horton. He was also preceded in death by his brother, J. W. Horton and sister, Frances Adams.
He received his undergraduate degree from Murray State in Murray, Ky., graduate degree from Vanderbilt and Masters in Hospital Administration at the University of Toronto in Canada. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Horton lived in Denver, Colo. for a number of years before moving to Monticello in 2010. Before retirement, he worked as the Director of Standards and Licensing for the state of Colorado.
He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and worldwide. He loved working in his flower and vegetable garden and dabbled in pottery. He was a member of the Denver Botanical Gardens and the Green Cheese Book Club.
He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Rae (Carol) Horton of Monticello, and John Clarence Horton of Denver, Colo.; granddaughter, Juniper Horton of Denver, Colo.; and sisters and brother, Effie Kemp, Jo Lovette and Nick Horton of Murray, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church in Monticello. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery in Monticello. Rev. Nathaniel Long will officiate.
