Town Named After Father of Deceased: Lived in Centerville Many Years
Funeral services for Wm. A. Exline, who passed away January 14 at the home of his son, Arch Exline at Des Moines, were held from the Exline Christian church Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Exline, who was past 84 years of age at the time of his death, was the son of David and Mary Exline. The town of Exline was named in honor of his father, Dave, who was the first merchant here, back in the '60's. Mr. Exline was born in Ohio but came to Iowa with his parents in 1862. He was the father of six children. His wife, Mary Ellen Deahl Exline died in 1935 (1934) and was buried in Moline. A son Charles passed away at the age of 12. A brother, "Ed" or J. E. Exline, formerly a local resident, survives and now lives in California.

Funeral services were also held at Des Moines, Wednesday morning. The rites here were conducted by E. E. Withrow, who was a childhood acquaintance of the deceased and has been a friend of the family for many years. The scripture selection was taken from Psalm 39.

Mrs. Paul Caster sang two selections, "Shall We Gather at the River?" and "The End of the Road." Mrs. Jasper Campbell assisted as accompanist.

Pallbearers were the following relatives and friends of the family: C. R. Withrow, George Withrow, W. P. Farnsworth, all of Centerville, Roy Deahl, Lawrence Gradwell and Clovie Deahl.

All of his children were here for the funeral. They are: Arch and Bert Exline and their families, of Des Moines, Oswa Exline of Moline, Mrs. Grace Conda of Moline, and Mrs. Stella Jonick of Moline.

James H. Findley and Jas. Charlson of the White's Funeral Home of Des Moines were in charge of the funeral, assisted in the interment by Johnson. Burial was in the family lot in the old cemetery here.
