Although her early career was spent with a couple of local banks, her true calling was the 30 years she spent working at LSU with Southland Concessions. There she was able to offer young people the opportunity to learn the importance of work and that it could be fun. She always had an easy, comfortable rapport with all those she hired and many of those relationships carried over into their adulthood. She was a longtime member of the Tara Garden Club, Psi Psi Psi Sorority, and a founding member of the Syndicate Club. Deryl loved life, loved people, loved animals and loved to laugh! In fact, her laughter was contagious. She was an outstanding cook, an avid shopper, a novice gardener, and a collector of many things. And how she loved music! Even when she could no longer dance just the sound of a good beat would bring a huge smile to her face and a tap to her foot. She was a true Lady of Grace that never complained about her illnesses and always put others before herself. Although she enjoyed traveling, her favorite place was being at home with her family. She was a loving wife and mother and nothing made her happier than to be in the kitchen with friends and family while she was whipping up a delicious meal for everyone with the juke box playing and everyone laughing and delighting in her true Southern hospitality!
She is survived by her husband of 54 years John C. Hamilton, Sr; daughter L’shele Hamilton; brother William “Billy” H. Parker III; nieces Mia Parker, Hayley Marshall; nephew Bill Parker; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son John “Johnny” C. Hamilton Jr. and her parents Verdith Jumel Parker and Ellis McGrew. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70815) from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM and will continue on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Funeral Services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park Baton Rouge, LA.
