Norma M. Shipman, 73 of Hendersonville, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Elizabeth House following a period of declining health.
A native of Miami, FL, she was the daughter of the late Reginald G. Chester & Margaret E. Peacock. Norma is also preceded in death by her step-father, Everett Peacock; and two brothers, John David Chester and Donald Wayne Chester.
She graduated in 1958 from Miami Edison Senior High, and was of the Baptist faith. She was employed through the years at DuPont, World of Clothing, and Trend Mental Health before her retirement in 1999. Norma was grateful to God to be a long time breast cancer survivor.
Norma is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Marie Cole of Lake Butler, FL, Katherine Marie Potts, and Carolyn Marie McAdams both of Hendersonville; a son, David Lawrence Cole of Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Richie, Christopher, Tiffany, and Bradley; three great-grandchildren, Leeann, Wyatt, and Adyson; a sister, Peggy L. Conerly of Eugene, OR; a step-brother, Terrell "Terry" McLemore of Green Ridge, MO; five brother-in-laws; one sister-in-law; and numerous other family members. Norma lived with and grew up among the Crompton's, Creech's, Russell's, Herring's, Liebmann's, and Starling's families. She was very happy and was very fond to be part of the John & Sara Hill, and Price families. She considered them all part of her Family in Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Balfour Baptist Church, 2502 Asheville Hwy, Hendersonville, NC. Reverends Travis Harrison and Joe Lund will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: Four Seasons Compassion-for-Life, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
