John A Bacon III, 55, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, with the Rev, Tod Ziegler officiating.
He was born Feb 15, 1949, at Lawrence to John A. and Shirley(Ramey)Bacon. He had been a resident of Ottawa for the past 16 years. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1967. He was a Vietnam veteran and had served in the US Navy from 1968 until his retirement in 1988 as a cryptologic technician petty officer, first class. He received commendations including five Good Conduct medals, Navy Unit Commendation
and the National Defense Service Medal. He had amassed more than 5,000 flight hours on the P-3 Orion Aircraft. During his military career, he was stationed in numerous locations including Spain, Greece, Beirut, Lebanon and Japan.
He married Mary Ann White, Feb 26, 1968, at Monterey, Calif. He was survived by three sons, daughter, and five grandchildren. He ws preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
