Early Life: Con was born September 30, 1926, in Spring City, Utah, to William Virgus and Ida Athene Allred Osborne.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Con had many great loves in his life: his beloved wife, Marjorie, his six lovely daughters, his sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his friends (some lifelong), his church, his books, the Utah mountains and traveling. Con was an educator by profession, having taught, in secondary schools in Mt. Pleasant, Midvale and Provo, Utah. He joined the Brigham Young University faculty in 1965 and was later requested to join a newly created Indian Education Department. He worked in that department for some twenty years, serving as Department Chair for seven of those years. He traveled widely to reservations, throughout the western states and Canada as a consultant and a BYU representative to Lamanite Conferences and Career Days. He taught courses in Native American Studies, English Composition, Guided Studies, and Secondary Education. His degrees were from BYU (BA and MLS) and the University of Utah (PhD). Con deeply cared for the Native American and other multicultural students and remained in contact with many of them. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, participating in the occupation of Japan. He was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with years of service in many varied callings. Virgus Connell Osborne passed away November 14, 2017, at home in Provo, Utah, of natural causes. He was 91.
Survived By: His daughters: Cherie (Paul) Thompson, Carla (Mike) Smoot, Christine Rowley, Connie (John) Howard, Cynthia (Tony) VanUitert, and Caryn (John) Crandall; his brother, Leo (LouAnn) Osborne; 27 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
Preceded In Death By: His wife, Marjorie Tuttle; parents, Virgus and Athene; a brother, Glen; and two grandchildren: Clayton Rowley and Melissa VanUitert.
