John E. Beaty, 84, retired farmer, a resident of this city for several year [sic], died at 3 a. m. Saturday at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne where he had undergone surgery for cancer. He had been in failing health several years and seriously ill for weeks.

Mr. Beaty was born April 13, 1864, in Huntington county to the Rev. Robert Beaty and Lydia A. Lippy Beaty, and was married November 11, 1890, in Liberty township, Wells county, near Mt. Zion, to Belle Huffman. Mrs. Beaty died September 19, 1945.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Claude Mounsey, Bluffton and Mrs. Frank Warner, this city, three sons, Everett and Fred Beaty, this city, and Ed Beaty, Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the last of his family and ahd lived in Rock Creek township since 1912, when he moved from Wells county.

The body has been removed to the home of the son, Fred, 44 East Taylor street where friends may call. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Liberty Center Methodist church in Wells county and interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery at Warren.
