Samuel RIGGS was born at Milford Conn., about 1640. When his father removed from Derby to Newark, N. J., Samuel was left in possession of the family propery
known as Riggs Hill which he probably inherited. In 1667, he married Sarah, daughter of Richard Baldwin, of Milford. Sarah died, and he married secondly, Mrs. Sarah Washburn, May 6, 1713.
A man of intelligence and substantial ability, he was a representative in the Legislature several years and a justice of the peace, and held the commission of ensign from the colonial government for a number of years. His death is recorded in 1738. He had a family of nine children, all by his first wife. He lived in Milford until 1671, then moved to Derby.
