Alan Ray Massengale, 70, of Chesterfield, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Massengale; and brothers, Terry, David and Leo. Alan was a member of Fort Lee Baptist Church and retired as an engineer with the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, as well as the Air National Guard. Alan was a member of Disabled American Veterans #44 and the American Legion Post 242. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia B. Massengale; stepchildren, Linda (Charlie) and Debbie (Steve); grandchildren, Jeffery, Nickolas and Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Whitney (Josh); great-great-granddaughter, Trinity; siblings, Dennis (Sue), Gary (Cindy) and Cathey (Rusty); as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, at Fort Lee Baptist Church, 2727 Charles City Rd., Richmond, Va. 23231. Interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, 1620 Sharon Church Rd., Scottsville, Va. 24590. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fort Lee Baptist Church.
