Franklin D.R. Coan, 82, of Bloomington, Illinois, passed away peacefully 10:52 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 8, 2017) at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 30, 1935 in Colfax, Illinois, a son of Wesley and Thelma Durflinger Coan. He married Shirley J. Nichols on May 28, 1960 in Bloomington. She survives.

Also surviving are his son, Steve (Heidi) Coan, Bloomington; granddaughter, Brooke (Matt) Tool, Clinton; great-grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Tool; brother, Jim (Joan) Coan, Bloomington; brothers-in-law, Ron Nichols, Normal, and Don (Marlis) Nichols, Clarksville, Indiana; sister-in-law, Dolores Nichols, Bloomington and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Frank was a concrete finisher and a 60-year member of Laborers Local 362, retiring after more than 25 years of service with JG Stewart Contractors in 2000.

He was an avid and accomplished bowler, winning several city tournament titles in the Bloomington Bowling Association. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and spent quality time with Emma and Lucas, his great-grandchildren.
