Maynard Daniel Borntrager, 84, of Macon, MS passed away January 2, 2017 at Noxubee County Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church with Rev. Alva Yoder and Rev. Kevin Yoder officiating. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall from 5-7 p.m. A private family burial will be held prior to the memorial service in Salem Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Noxubee County Nursing Home Activities Fund, P.O. Box 480, Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Borntrager was born on January 23, 1932 in Johnson Co., Iowa to the late Dan and Fannie Borntrager. He married Mary (Schwatz) Borntrager on January 27, 1952 at Plato Mennonite Church in Indiana. Most of their early married life was spent in Sturgis, MI area where four children were born. Maynard moved his family to Macon, MS in June, 1966 where he resided until his death. Mr. Borntrager was a retired dairy farmer. His hobbies included woodworking, raising miniature horses and playing his harmonicas. The last few years he had resided in personal care and nursing home as a result of complications of Parkinson’s disease. Mr. Borntrager was a member of the Faith Mennonite Fellowship, Crawford, MS. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Mattie (Miller) Borntrager, son Michael Allen Borntrager, brothers, A.D., Lee Andy, Roscoe Ray and Elmer Glen, sister, Irene Miller, and step-brother, Roy Miller.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Mary; daughters, Myra Jean Kleis of Columbus, MS, Miriam Sue Miller of Macon ; son Merrill Dan Borntrager of Mt. Joy, PA and foster son, Gary Tubby; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Clarence and Floyd; sisters, Susan Nissley, Millie Ann Borntrager, and Idella Otto; step-brothers, Roman and Rollin Miller, step-sister, Ruby Hochstetler and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Josh and Joey Kleis, Ronnie and Ronnie II Stewart, Ed Burney, Mitch Miller, Jason Lashlee, Nate Faus, Michael, Jr. and Tim Borntrager.
