Pete was born on August 19, 1935 in Winton, NC to Opal Eure and Claude Eure. He always claimed to be "100% Eure". Upon graduation from high school he enlisted into the US Navy and was stationed at Norfolk Naval Base where he met his wife Sammie. While in the Navy he also served onboard the USS Forrestal during the Korean Confict. After finishing his tour in the Navy, Pete and Sammie were married on August 8, 1957. After marriage, Pete worked as assistant manager with Belk Stores in Georgia. He moved to North Carolina in 1960 where he joined the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He served with the Highway Patrol at various duty stations reaching the grade of First Sergeant. Upon his retirement from the Patrol he finished his career as an Assistant Administrator with NCDMV in Raleigh. After retiring, Pete and Sammie enjoyed traveling, visiting 49 of the 50 states. Up until his declining health, Pete remained busy and active serving many roles and positions with the Winterville Baptist Church, President of The Salvation Army Advisory Board, Past Master of Crown Point Lodge #708 A.F. & A.M. and Jerusalem Lodge, New Bern Scottish Rite and the Sudan Shriners. A man of many talents and interests, he enjoyed working in his garden and yard but mostly enjoyed his three grandchildren and great granddaughter.
Pete is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, mother, father, brother and five sisters. He is survived by his: son, Skip and wife, JoAnne; their three children Katie, Matthew and his wife, Casey, and Molly; and great granddaughter, Lilly Beth.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Skip and JoAnne Eure. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Winterville Baptist Church, 2593 S. Church
