Mrs. Sennet graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1931 and left the family farm to attend Frankford Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA where she graduated in 1934. She began her nursing career at Roxborough Memorial Hospital where she worked for 8 years. She continued this profession as a nurse for Dr. Pompizzi in Roxborough, PA where she worked for 29 years. Mrs. Sennet left Philadelphia in 1971 intending to retire to Gettysburg, PA. However, her strong dedication to the nursing field led her to Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Home where she worked as charge nurse from 1971 to 1974.
Mrs. Sennet was predeceased by her first husband, James Edward Davis, who died in 1981. Mrs. Sennet’s 2nd husband, Clarence Charles Sennet, died in 1987. Mrs. Sennet is survived by her daughter, Suzanne G. Davis (James) Pownall, Sr. of Newark, DE and step daughter-in-law, Fran Sennett.
Mrs. Sennet, affectionately known as “Big OooMom” is also survived by her granddaughter Kristie Pownall (Norris) Whitehead and her grandson James (Kate) Pownall, Jr. and their two children Aaron and Amanda. She also leaves behind 4 step-grandchildren Jane Wilson, Linda Alburger, Donna Duriski and Robert Sennet, Jr. and their spouses, 8 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her stepson and his 1st wife, Robert and Harriet Sennett, two sisters, Elizabeth Scott and Mary Beard Trostel, and two brothers, J. Edward Weikert and Francis Weikert.
Mrs. Sennet was known for her commitment to volunteerism. She enjoyed helping out at her home church, Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian and the thrift store in downtown Gettysburg. She also volunteered her time as receptionist for the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Home. The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the employees, nurses and residents of the SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Gettysburg for years of friendship, care and support. In addition, the family would like to commend the volunteers and Pastor Sherry Miller of the New Abider’s Program at the SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Gettysburg who provided ongoing support and comfort to Mrs. Sennet during her final days. Finally, the family would like to recognize Reverend Dale Williams of Gettysburg, PA who was Mrs. Sennet’s spiritual leader and dear friend for many years.
Interment will take place at the George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, PA
