George Lee Achord, 88, of Rosenberg, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2016. He was born February 22, 1929 in Orange to Willie J. and Mattie L. Achord. George was a member of 2nd Baptist Church in Rosenberg and retired as a mail clerk for Sperry Sun. He was a former Galveston Police officer and a musician. He played with Utah Carl on television and played with the Rosenberg and Fort Bend Opry. He also played back up guitar for many stars including Leanne Rhimes.
Survivors include his daughter, Jo Anne Cleaver and husband, Pat; brother, Alton Achord; 2 grandchildren, Blaque and Jerry Burke; along with other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings, and a daughter, Cathy Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home, with pastor Paul Lewis presiding. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday starting at 9 A.M. until service time.
