Margaret was the daughter of Martin Ludvig Halvorson and Anna Marie Gunderson.

She had seven siblings: Martin George, Olaf Ingvald, Anna Marie, Donald Leroy, Gretha, Luther Arnold, and a baby.

Margaret married Leon Olai Westrum on October 11, 1941.

They were the parents of three children: Rachel Louise, Helen Ann, and Timothy Olai.

Margaret Westrum 1914-1969

Mrs. Margaret L. Westrum, 55, passed away suddenly at the Fosston Hospital Thursday night, November 13. Mrs. Westrum was born at Wanamingo, Minnesota, March 17, 1914, to parents Martin and Ann Halvorson. She attended school at Wanamingo and went to Mankato Normal Teachers College. She was teaching at Clearbrook when she met her husband, Olia Westrum, and they were married at St. Paul on October 11, 1941. The Westrums lived at Clearbrook for many years and in 1964 they went to the Redby Mission as missionaries.
They bought the Hartz Store at Gonvick in 1966 and have lived there since. Mrs. Westrum did teaching in the area and at the present time was teaching in the Gully Public School. She was a very active member of the Elim Lutheran Church at Clearbrook and had been very active in the ladies groups and organizations of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Westrum have sung and played at scores of weddings and funerals in the Clearbrook and Gonvick area for years.
Mrs. Westrum is survived by her husband Olai of Gonvick and three children: (Rachel) Mrs. John Peterson of Warren; (Helen) Mrs. Steve Olson of Honlulu, Hawaii; and Tim of Fergus Falls. Also two brothers, Olaf and George Halvorson of Minneapolis, and a sister (Marie) Mrs. Patrick Doyle of Minneapolis and one grandchild. Mrs. Westrum was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Luther.
Funeral servcies were held Monday, November 17, at 2 p.m., in the Elim Lutheran Church with the Rev. Sanford Soma officiating. Burial was made in the church semetery under the direction of the Cease Funeral Home.
