Bobbie grew up in Bienville Parish and graduated from Ringgold High School. She
entered Northwestern State College, Natchitoches, LA, in the fall of 1947,
graduating with a B.S. degree in Vocational Home Economics in August, 1950. For
the next 14 years, she taught home economics in Beauregard Parish schools:
Sugartown, Merryville and DeRidder. In 1965, Bobbie became the Beauregard
Parish Home Economist with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service (LCES),
and served in this capacity for 5 years. In 1970, she was promoted to the
position of Clothing Specialist in the central office of LCES, housed on the LSU
campus. Bobbie earned her Master’s and Doctor’s degrees in Adult Education at
LSU in 1972 and 1976. In 1977, she became LCES Home Economics division leader,
supervising the state home economics staff. At this time, she also joined the
LSU graduate faculty, and for the next 10 years taught an adult education
graduate course each semester, while supervising student research and serving as
major professor as they prepared thesis and/or dissertations. In 1987, Bobbie
became state leader of LCES home economics, and in 1990, she retired after 25
years with LCES.

In 1950, Bobbie’s first job took her to Sugartown, LA, (an early pioneer
community in Beauregard Parish) where she lived for a year, and met and married
her husband Don in 1951. She moved to DeRidder, Beauregard Parish, LA, in 1951
and lived there until 1970. She moved to Baton Rouge, LA, in 1970 when her
husband, Don, received a promotion to Chief of Fire Control for the Louisiana
Forestry Association. After retirement, she and Don moved back to DeRidder.

Bobbie is survived by one daughter, Donna McFatter Miller, husband Wade Miller
of DeRidder, LA. Two grandsons: Stacy Miller, wife Melissa of Pitkin, LA and
Mark Miller, wife Kari of Dry Creek, LA. Five great grandchildren: Ashley, Josh,
Lindsey, Jay and Ryan.
One brother: Malcolm Batchelor, wife Barbara of Ringgold, LA.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, T.C. and Dovie Batchelor, and her
husband of 62 years, Donald Lee McFatter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Granger, the staff and nurses at
Westwood Manor Nursing Home and Beauregard Memorial Hospital for their care and
compassion during Bobbie’s illness.

Visitation will be held Nov. 4, 2017 at Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder,
from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. A private burial service will follow at a later date.


Bobbie was a member of First Baptist Church of DeRidder. She served in the
field of education most of her adult life. In lieu of flowers, please consider
a donation to the DeRidder First Baptist Church Academy or the Louisiana Baptist
