Mr. Jennings “Gene” Albert Craig, age 91, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.
Born April 21, 1926 in Caldwell County, Gene was a son of the late Azor and Edna Bolick Craig. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitnel and a veteran of the United States Navy. Gene enjoyed working on small engines and taught brick laying at the Caldwell County School system. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Faye Helton Craig; three brothers, Dennis “Denny” Craig, Ray Craig and Albert Craig.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sherrie Wyke (husband Rick) and Gina Griffin (husband Darren); two brothers, Howard Craig and Bruce Craig; five grandchildren, Tangela Nichols, Todd Wyke (wife Courtney), Chad Wyke (wife Caitlin), Kelsie Griffin and Bryson Griffin; he is also survived by nine great grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Whitnel with Pastor Steve Hedgecock and Pastor Stuart White officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Craig, Ryan Craig, Ronnie Craig, Hayden Wyke, Gavin Wyke and Alan Craig. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Scott Childress.
