Son of Thomas Ashby, Jr. (1722/4 VA-1786 WV) and Elizabeth "Betty" ___ (1722-1751) married in 1737, Frederick Co., VA. His father then married Mary Ann McCullough on Nov. 14, 1751.

Head of Family Hampshire Co., Va. 1782 census (now Hampshire County, WV) with 7 persons in household. In same census were Jesse Ashby, Peter Ashby and Stephen Ashby (9 white and 3 black).

Married Winifred Timmons in 1776, Hampshire Co., VA. Born 1764, Frederick Co., MD-August 10, 1839, Hopkins Co., KY). Daughter of Henry T. Timmons and Elizabeth Hubbard Green.

Revolutionary War Service
Private under Captain James Parsons, marched to Pittsburgh and down the Ohio below Wheeling, "The Point" and assisted in burying Captain Furman and about 20 men who had been killed there by the Indians. He enlisted in 1781 and served more than three months in pursuit of Tories. Moved to Mercer County, KY; moved to Hopkins Co., KY.

Peter Ashby, while residing in said Hampshire County, volunteered and served three months as a Private in Captain James Parsons' Virginia company, marched to Pittsburgh, thence down the Ohio River below Wheeling (WV) to "The Point", and assisted in burying Captain Furman and about twenty men, who had been killed there by the Indians. He enlisted in 1781 and served more than three months in Captain Thomas Neale's company in pursuit of Tories.

Peter Ashby age 81 years. Born Frederick Co., Va. 1751 - removed to the Co. of Hampshire in 1776 or 1777. Served in Revolutionary War 3 mos. then again 3 mos. in 1781. After Revolution he removed to Mercer Co., Ky. and thence to Hopkins Co., Ky. Daniel Ashby swears he is age 73 years old, and at time of Revolution, was a neighbor of Peter Ashby.

Hopkins Co., Ky. Ct 3-10-1845. Jesse for himself, and his brothers and sisters; Henry Ashby, Ann (wife of Lewis Robertson), Jesse Ashby, Peter Ashby and Hannah, wife of James Howell of Livingston Co., Mo., children of Peter Ashby on 1-29-1833 at a very advanced age. Winnifred who died 8-10-39 married Peter Ashby in Hampshire Co., Va., some few years prior to 1780. She was Winnifred Timmons, daughter of Henry Timmons and Elizabeth Hubbard Green, both born in Broadmeadows, Birmingham, England.

Deposition dated 12-5-1844, of George Timmons (brother of Winnifred) of Hopkins Co., Ky. age 83 years. He was in Revolution in VA. 1780. Prior to that time Peter married my sister Winnifred and had two children by 1780. Winnie and Peter married in Hampshire Co., Va. in a Methodist Church. Children of Peter and Winnie were Henry, Jesse, Peter, Jonathan, Hannah, Elizabeth, Samuel, Thomas H., Absalom, and Allison.

George Timmons, brother of the widow, Winnifred Ashby, was eighty-three years of age in 1844 and living in Hopkins Co., KY.

Peter Ashby allowed pension on his application executed, August 13, 1832, while a resident of Hopkins County, KY. He died at his residence in said county, January 28 or 29, 1833.
