He was born Dec. 26, 1903, in the town of Pleasant Valley, Eau Claire County, to Abraham and Anna (Behlke) Barrneson. He married Helen Behlke Sept. 21, 1930, in Cleghorn. They farmed in the Town of Pleasant Valley, retiring in 1971. Fred moved to Mondovi in 1984.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi, served on St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery Board, played dart-ball for Peace, St. Paul's and Zion Lutheran Churches, served on the board of the Cleghorn Creamery for four years and was a director of Beef River Shipping Association for seven years.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Diane) Barneson of Waterloo, Iowa; three daughters, Janice Smeltzer of Bloomington, Minn., Norma (Don) Syverson of Eau Claire and Carol (Hal) McCabe of Rockford, Ill.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Erwin (Gwen "Teck") Barneson of Eleva; two sisters, Anna Roinestad of Eau Claire and Betty (Selmer) Olson of Strum.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, Aug. 10, 1991; two daughters, Audrey Barneson and Lorraine Herbenson; two grandchildren; his parents; four brothers; a sister.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi, with the Rev. David Maki officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Cleghorn.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Kjentvet & Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi and from 9 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
