Elizabeth “Betty” passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. She was born April 24, 1938 in New Cumberland, WV, the daughter of Stephen and Esther (Costello) Haynes. Betty was united in marriage to Carl D. Carter, who preceded her in death on December 16, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by a brother James Haynes. Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was employed with Big Boy’s as the dining room manager for several years. Surviving are her two children, Kathy (Ronald) Warren, and Tim (Michelle) Lake; four grandchildren Christen Broussard, Chelsea Broussard, Sadie Lake, and Walker Lake; a great-granddaughter Adelaide West; her sister Jackie Taylor; and very special friends Karen (Geoffrey) Cooley. Honoring Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM Thursday, November 2nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church (936 Lake St.) with Msgr. Michael Hazard officiating. Immediately following mass there will be a luncheon in the church hall.

A private interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty’s memory may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
