"69th Wedding anniversary was near"
Mrs. Jacob Cockerill, 86, well known resident of this city and member of one of Fayette County's earliest families, died at her home in East Court Street, Saturday forenoon at 9:30 o'clock. She had been in failing health for many months.
Had she lived until September 28 she and Mr. Cockerill had planned to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary. Mr. Cockerill has also been in in poor health for some time.
Mrs. Cockerill spent part of her life on a farm in the southern part of the county, and the remainder in this city. She has wide family connections and a very large circle of friends.
A member of the Sugar Grove M.E. Church, she attended religious services at Grace M. E. Church while she resided here.
Surviving are four sons and five daughters: Elmer and Walter Cockerill, near Greenfield; Luther and Ernest of Fayette County; Mrs. John King, Mrs. Will Patton, Mrs. Frank Hains, this county; Laura of Columbus and Daisy at home.
The body was taken to the Hook Funeral Home and returned to her late home in East Court Street Monday morning.
Funeral Services will be held at the Hook Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and burial will be made in the Cochran Cemetery.

A very large number of relatives and friends filled the Hook Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon for the farewell services held for Mrs. Jacob Cockerill, member of one of the county's earliest families, who died at her home in this city Sunday.
Rev. A. K. Wilson, pastor of Grace Church, conducted the services, and in a tribute to Mrs. Cockerill, spoke of her long life and active work in the church.
Rev. Neil H. Peterson, of Good Hope M. E. Circuit, read the scriptures and offered prayer. He also read the hymn "I Would Not Live Always."
Carl Kwak played softly the violin solo "The Lord Is My Shepherd" with Miss Lorie King at the piano.
The floral gifts were many in number and exquisite beauty, being cared for by members of Miss Daisy Cokerill's class.
The women of Mrs. Ola Bayer's (?) class, of which Mrs. Cockerill was a member, attended the services in a body.
Interment was made in the Cochran Cemetery, located in the community in which Mrs. Cockerill had spent many years of her life.
The pallbearers were: Luther, Elmer, Walter and Ernest Cokerill, Frank Haines, and John Kirk.
