Jacob Samuel Fallis Wood, son of William F. and Barbara Wood, was born January 6, 1839, in Page County Virginia. He married Sarah K.G. Elliot March 8, 1866. He was ordained a Baptist minister August 22, 1863. After preaching for 32 years, mainly in rural areas in northwest Missouri, his health failed, and he came to northeast Wyoming. He filed on a homestead on Beaver Creek near Alva, Wyoming, in 1893. The Reverend J.S.F. Wood helped organize the Alva Community Church and the Baptist Church at Hulett, Wyoming. Two children were born to Jacob and Sarah, William Jefferson and Jay Alden. In 1911, after more than fifty years of work for the Lord, Jacob and Sarah moved to California. He began a mission as a part of the Santa Ana Baptist Church. He resigned at 83 years of age. The Reverend Wood and his wife were known as "Uncle Jake" and "Aunt Sallie".
