TOWN OF RUSSIA – George A. Ehlinger, 84, of Gravesville Road, died on April 5, 2013 at St. Luke’s Home, New Hartford.

Mr. Ehlinger was born on January 21, 1929 in Utica, a son of the late Louis V. and Rosella (Heintz) Ehlinger. He was educated in local schools. In September of 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in February of 1948. George attended St. Bonaventure University and graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University in June of 1953. He was married to the former Alice Marie Kelley of Utica on May 26, 1956, a loving union of 55 years until her passing on September 23, 2011.

George was employed by Oneida National Bank and followed it through its subsequent mergers retiring in 1990 after 37 years as Assistant Vice President of their Poland Office. While employed in the banking industry he attended and graduated from the Consumer Credit School at West Point and he also held a graduate certificate from the American Institute of Banking.

He was a former member of the Poland Central School Board of Education, a member and past president of the Kuyahoora Valley Rotary Club and served as the treasurer of the former Kuyahoora Minutemen for 27 years. George was also a former Assessor for the Town of Russia.

Survivors include three children, Garth Ehlinger of Mansfield OH, Beth (Edward) Denhoff of the Town of Russia, and Bryan (Patricia) Ehlinger of Barneveld; his granddaughter, Lindsay Denhoff of Cazenovia and his grandson, Ryan Ehlinger of Barneveld; one sister, Roberta Wagner of Deerfield; three brothers, Joseph of Little Falls, Peter of Orchard Park and Paul of Monaca, PA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by six sisters, Rosella Isele, Armella Gorton, Frances Fonda, Elizabeth Yule, Margaret Worlock and Agnes Ashley; two brothers, Sgt. Louis J., killed in battle during WWII and Thomas; and his step-mother, Coletta Heintz Ehlinger.

In accordance with George’s wishes, his cremains will be buried next to his wife at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. There are no public calling hours or services. Arrangements are entrusted to Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
