“Dick,” as he was known by his family and friends, was born on May 10, 1938 in Sayre, the son of D. A. Hollenback and Agnes Lynch Hollenback. He was a graduate of Towanda High School with the Class of 1956. In early years, Dick worked on the family farm with his father, D. A., and brother Robert and was later employed by Agway, Inc. and the Citizens & Northern Bank. Dick continued his career in banking, beginning as a bank teller with the First National Bank in Towanda, which later became the First National Bank of Bradford County, and through the years served as a loan officer, retiring as assistant vice president in the early 1990s, following a massive cerebrovascular accident in 1988.
Dick was a member of the Wysox Presbyterian Church, where he formerly served as church treasurer and as a Sunday school teacher. He also served as sextant for the Wysox Cemetery for a number of years. Dick was a 40-year-member of the Towanda Lions Club, where he was a past president and the honored recipient of the Melvin Jones Award in 1994.
Dick enjoyed hunting, golfing, vegetable and flower gardening and was a craftsman. He loved all animals especially cats and dogs.
His family includes his devoted wife of 56 years, Millie Young Hollenback, to whom he was married on Aug. 26, 1961 in Ulster; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Jay Dzwil of Lansdale, Pennsylvania; granddaughters, Gwendolyn and Allison of Lansdale; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ralph Pautz of Lakewood, Colorado; sister-in-law, Sandra Hollenback of Wysox; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, D. A. Hollenback on Aug. 27, 1973; mother, Agnes Lynch Hollenback on Jan. 21, 1991; and brother, Robert E. Hollenback on July 5, 1981.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, PA 18848. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert W. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wysox Cemetery. The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Bradford County Humane Society, P. O. Box 179, Ulster, PA 18850, in memory of Richard W. Hollenback.
