William Jay Marshall, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Beacon Place Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Service in the Hanes-Lineberry Center, 515 N. Elm Street.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Jay was born September 22, 1928, in Rockingham County, NC to the late Walter and Annie Marshall and he attended Summerfield Schools. Jay proudly served his country while in the United States Army during the Korean War. Once he was discharged from the Army, he returned home and learned auto body repair and worked for many automotive companies.
His longest employment was with Green Ford, where he retired at the age of 75. He loved to tinker and fix things, Dale Earnhardt was his favorite NASCAR drive and most of all he loved his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Gerald Scott Marshall and his five brothers.
He is survived by his sons, Rodney Marshall and his wife, Dawn of Pleasant Garden, Barry Marshall and his wife, Kim of Summerfield; grandchildren, Lauren Sainaton (Allen), Kathryn Marshall, Amber Marshall (Sam Stephenson) and sister, Lucille Rice of Summerfield.
