Bernetha Pullins Blalock passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She is reunited in death with her husband, Norman Blalock Sr.; and her beloved daughter, Norma Jean.

Affectionately known as "Bunny" or "Bernie" to most, Bernetha was reared in Cocoa Beach and graduated from Monroe High School. Upon completion, she attended Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, where she met her lifelong friend, Gloria Johnson (nee Bryant). Bernetha attained the degree of Bachelor of Science in Institution Management in 1950. She later obtained credentials as a Registered Dietitian from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in Richmond. While interning with MCV, Bernetha was wooed by a sailor named Norman, and they were married in 1954. In 1955, Bernetha and Norman were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Norma Jean, who brought them great joy and much pride with her accomplishments throughout her life, especially in the field of Communications. In addition to being an amazing wife and mother, Bernetha was an accomplished educator and retired from Richmond Public Schools. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, traveling, casinos, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Bernetha was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Eta Phi Beta Sorority, and many other civic and community organizations. In past years, she and Norman were very active in Mocha Temple and made many life-long friends there. As a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of Isis, Bernetha served as Past Most Ancient Grand Matron - Gilgal Grand Court Heroines of Jericho of Virginia PHA and Past Royal Grand Commandress - Most Royal Grand Court of Cyrene of Virginia PHA.

Left to celebrate her life are a stepdaughter, Phyllis Davis; four stepsons, Albert Blalock, Norman Blalock Jr., Darrell Blevins and Dennis Blevins; a sister-in-law, Naomi Lewis; a brother-in-law, Reverend (Ret.) William Smith; many stepgrandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Mrs. Blalock layed in repose at the funeral home, at which time the family received friends. Funeral services were held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1720 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Richmond, Virginia, with the Pastor, Reverend Rodney Hunter, officiating.
