Arthur "A.C" Caviness
February 10, 1929 - September 29, 2017

Arthur C. (A.C.) Caviness, 88, of Montgomery, Texas passed away on September 29, 2017, peacefully in his sleep.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, October 21 at April Sound Church in Montgomery, Texas. Visitation will be held at the church following the service. Interment will be Friday, October 20th at the Veterans National Cemetery in Houston. Arrangements are being handled by Klein Funeral Home, Magnolia, Texas.
A.C. was born in Caviness, Texas in 1929 to Arthur & Lola Manhart Caviness and graduated from Aiken High School, Paris, Texas, in 1945 at the age of 16. He joined the US Army Air Corps (USAAF) at 17 and served as a Ground Control Approach Operator at various military bases in the United States and Canada.
After serving his country, A.C. utilized his GI Bill to complete his education. Shortly after leaving the service, he met the love of his life, Joy Fay (Stewart) Caviness on a blind date. She was not his date, but that didn’t stop A.C. They were married in 1952 and settled in Arlington, Texas to raise their family. During that time, A.C. worked full-time and went to night school to get his college degree. Nine years later, Joy and all three of their children, saw A.C. graduate with his BSME degree from SMU School of Engineering.
A.C. worked as an engineer in aircraft safety certification and contract negotiations for the FAA for over 30 years, in addition to multiple years “on loan” to ICAO. His career provided him and his family the opportunity to travel the world and live in Brussels, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Indonesia and various cities in the United States.
He enjoyed foreign travel with his family. His favorite time of life was when the family lived in Brussels. He often reminisced about the lifelong friends made there and the many adventures in travel with his family and friends, visiting the sites in Europe.
He made one last trip to Europe in 2011 with his three children for a reunion of the Brussels American School (BAS) his children attended in the 70s. A.C. and his children also visited Amsterdam and stayed in an apartment in Paris that was walking distance to the Eiffel Tower. It was a trip full of great memories that he cherished. But sadly, missing was his beloved Joy, who passed away in 2009.
In his later years, A.C. devoted his time to volunteering at the April Sound Church where he did various acts of service, including counting the collection money on Mondays with his team of ladies. He cultivated the friendships that he and Joy had formed in April Sound and spent time with his children, his grandchildren and other members of his family. He especially enjoyed watching sports, working out at the fitness center, doing crossword puzzles, taking French lessons and learning to play the piano. He entertained the family during Christmas holidays playing carols and his children, their significant others, grandchildren and other family members would attempt to sign along.
He is survived by his three children, Melody Black and friend Alan Rosenthal, Melinda Schroeder and husband Glenn, John Caviness and partner Dan Wunderlich; his grandchildren Devin Black and friend Alyx O’Brien, Will Schroeder and wife Brittany, John O’Reilly and wife Hannah, and Rachel Schroeder and friend Jesse Hendricks; his sister Martha Ashford; his sister-in-law Gay McCurdy and husband Ed; his great grandchildren Lane Meyer, Jethro Schroeder and Benjamin O’Reilly; his nieces Vicki Feldpausch and husband David, Pam Ashford Williamson, Lisa Ashford-Hoote and husband Terry; his nephews, Gary Browne and wife Linda, Mike Browne, Mark Ashford and wife Wendy; Darrel McCurdy and wife Michelle, Jerry Dicken and Terry Dicken; his great nephews, Mark Wright and wife Pam, Chris Wright and wife Betty, Keith Wright and wife Jane; cousins and the rest of his family and friends.
A.C. is preceded in death by his beloved wife Joy Fay Caviness; his parents Arthur and Lola Manhart Caviness; his parents in-law Bertha and Ralph Stewart; his sisters Dorothy Amos and husband Joe, Clyde Baker and husband W.W., and June Dicken and husband Harvey and his niece Gail Wright and husband Daniel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to honor A. C. and Joy, who lost her life to breast cancer, may be made to:
