Born August 15, 1943 in Shelby to Gail L. & Agnes (Verhoff) Fichter, he has been a lifelong Shelby resident. Jerry was a graduate of Shelby High School class of 1961 and then served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a printer/foreman for Miami Systems since 1964 and retired in 2005. He was a life member of the Shelby American Legion Post #326, where he was a past-commander, a 44 year member of the Shelby Owls and the NRA.
Jerry liked watching the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes play, he also enjoyed cooking, golfing, shooting and attending gun shows and spoiling the neighbor's and friend's dogs with treats.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Ringle) Fichter, whom he married November 24, 1978; his two children, Jerrilyn Kayser of Bradenton, Florida and Theresa Fichter (Adam Raver) of Mansfield; one brother, Jan Fichter of Mansfield and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Jenny Fichter and his father and mother-in-law, Bill & Peg Ringle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby. Pastor James Robinson will officiate with interment held in Little London Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Richland Country Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial expressions may be made to the Richland County Joint Veteran Burial Detail at PO Box 431, Mansfield, Ohio, 44901 or to the Richland County Humane Society at 3025 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, Ohio, 44906.
