Ray Alexander, 83, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.
Mr. Alexander was born on Sept. 2, 1915, at Grand Island to John and Cara (Phelps) Alexander. He grew up in Grand Island, except for nine years of his youth that were spent on a farm in Sherman County. He was educated in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1933. He married Irene Scheibe on Nov. 26, 1938, at Smith Center, Kan. The couple lived in Grand Island throughout their marriage. he worked for the Grand Island Utilities Department for 36 years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, United Commercial Travelers and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dick and Ron, both of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson; one sister, Ruth Alexander; and one brother, Robert Alexander.
