Abbie Tudor Eldredge beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully in her home on June 9, 2016 at the age of 88. She leaves this world complete after a life enriched with love, family and friends.
Abbie was born in Iowa City, Iowa to John Milton and Grace Tudor. She grew up on a farm in Olin, Iowa, and attended Olin High school where she delivered the Valedictorian Speech at her graduation in 1945 at the end of WWII. She earned a Bachelor's degree in nursing from Francis Payne Bolton at Case Western Reserve. Shortly after graduation she married the love of her life Eugene Eldredge and together they moved to California where she helped Gene start his pediatric practice in Salinas.
Throughout her life Abbie dedicated herself to a myriad of social issues, community projects, and professional activities. She was a Board member of the VNA and Hospice, Steinbeck House, Entre Nous Society, PEO Sisterhood, Monterey County Medical Auxiliary, and the Woman's Ministry at First Presbyterian Church. She served as the President of the California Medical Association Alliance and was instrumental in the passing of the first Car Seat Law.
The conclusion of her high school Valedictorian speech embodied the spiritual thread that followed her throughout her life as she quoted an Old Chinese Proverb: "If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character. If there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home there will be order in the nation. And if there is order in the nation there will peace in the world."
She embraced the very best of everything and everybody and all that life had to offer.
Abbie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eugene and her two sisters Mary Jacobs and Gwen Will.
She is survived by her brother John M Tudor MD and her five children David Eldredge (Sally), Ann Kenfield (Steve), Elizabeth Paul (Stuart), Marigrace Gamble (Larry), and John Eldredge (Amy). She is also survived by her loving and cherished fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
