He was married to Vernie May Wolf on 18 Sep. 1932.
Buck and Vernie had six children, three girls and three boys; Carolyn May, Jacquelyn Marie, Donna Louise, Richard Raymond, Ronald Emil and William Henry.
He began the Des Peres Quarry on the family farm at the age of 19. He did all the work in the beginning by hand. He operated the quarry until the age of 77, when he sold it (because OSHA told him he was too old to work the heavy equipment any more) and retired. He taught himself to water ski when he was 75! He was a very active, healthy man well into his senior years. He lived to be 98 years 5 months and 8 days.
