“Mrs. William H. Wright, after being a sufferer with cancer for some time, died Saturday morning at 1:50 o’clock at her home in this city. The inevitable hour faced her for several weeks and her death was not unexpected.
Lois Sabina Clegg was born on Jan. 2, 1852, at Moundsville, W. Va., and was the youngest daughter of Samuel and Lydia Clegg. When she was two years of age her parents emigrated to Illinois and located near Washburn but shortly after homesteaded on land south of Dana, in which vicinity the deceased had resided until 1891, when with her husband and children she came to Minonk to live.
She was united in marriage to William H. Wright at Streator on Dec. 4, 1874. To this union were born two children. They are Isaac, of Peoria, and Belle at home. A grandchild and three sisters, Minerva Marshall and Mary Frybarger, of Miltonvale, Kan., and Rebecca Bane, of Dana, also survive. Her late husband passed away April 23, 1910.
Mrs. Wright came of Quaker parentage and her traits of character comprised the sterling honesty, the patience, the peacefulness and the industry of these people. She came to Illinois when everything was wild and virgin, when deer trampled the prairies in large numbers and other wild animals roamed at will, and her character seemed to have imbibed the sturdiness in spirit of those early days. The year she came to Illinois with her parents the Illinois Central had only been built as far as Minonk and the buildings here consisted of but a few shacks. Mrs. Wright was a woman who had much faith in God and in early womanhood was converted and immersed in the Holiness faith. She was a good woman and her loss will be poignantly felt.
Funeral services were held from the late [?] home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. Tullis officiating. Interment was in the Minonk cemetery.
The pallbearers were Josiah Kerrick, F.H. Goodrich, James Kerrick, H.A. Miller, SC. E. Ridge and W.O. Pope. The flower bearers, Ira Green, Harry Dague, H.D. Fuller, John Cassens and Edward Gray.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral are Mrs. W.O. McKay, of Chicago; Mrs. M.M. Bane, of Pontiac; Mrs. Henry Kaut and Miss Nerva Thorp, of Downer’s Grove; Miss Edna Hungerford, of Peoria; Edwin Wright of Wenona.”
