EARL "BUZZ" WALLACE BARTON OCT. 2, 1923 - MAR. 11, 2007 A lifetime resident of Modesto, Earl passed at the age of 83 at Garden City Healthcare Center.

Earl was born at his parent's farm home and continued to live on Carver Road for over 60 years. He attended Prescott Elementary School and Modesto High School, where he was president of the Future Farmers of America, 1941-42.

He served in the army from 1943 to 1946, serving with the 2nd Armored Division. He received the Distinguished Service Cross during the Battle of the Bulge.

Earl was a member of the Salida Fire Department from 1943 to 1984, retiring as First Assistant Chief. He helped found the Stanislaus County fire Training Officers Association.

One of Earl's favorite highlights in life was fishing on the Klamath River. He was a farmer, a dairyman, and former owner of Custom Window Supply.

His first love was his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and expressed his love to his many friends and his loving family. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church.

He is survived by his four children and their companions, James P. and Rachel Barton, Carol and Sam Mohler, Sally and Daniel Bowman, all of Modesto, John and Kathleen Barton of Salida; one sister, Myrtle Mohler and one brother, Wilmer Barton, both of Modesto; 13 precious grandchildren and two step-sons, Larry Locker and Gary Locker, both of Lima, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Orpha Barton, his first wife, Eileen (Jarboe) Barton, and his second wife, Kathryn (Locker) Barton and one sister, Hazel Wolf.

Visitation will be held Wed. March 14th from 3pm to 8pm; Service will be held Thur. March 15 at 10am, both at Modesto District of Old German Baptist Brethren Church 2866 West Rumble Road, Modesto. Interment at Wood Colony Cemetery. Services under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel. www.modbee.com/obituaries

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technician Fifth Grade Earl W. Barton, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 66th Armored Regiment, 2d Armored Division, in action against enemy forces on 4 January 1945. Technician Fifth Grade Barton's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 2nd Armored Division, and the United States Army.
