Mary Ann Lanier was born February 5, 1877 in Emanuel County, Georgia to James Hudson Lanier and his wife, Alice Burt Lanier. She married Thomas S. Jones and their marriage produced a daughter, Dora, 1896-1899, and a son, Charlie, born 1899. Mary Ann is buried in an unmarked grave in Rosemary Church Cemetery in Metter, Georgia. Mary Ann Lanier had a twin brother, Allen Mercer Lanier. The 1880 census for District 59, Emanuel County, GA (page 23 of 26 of the PDF version on Ancestry) family number 193, of James Lanier. It shows James Lanier, age 31, born in Georgia and so were both parents, occupation : farmer. His wife , Alice, age 26, born in Georgia, her father born in Virginia and mother born in Georgia. The children (all born in Georgia): John B. Lanier, age 5, Allen M. Lanier, age 3, Mary Ann Lanier, age 3, and Martha M. Lanier, age 1. To the side of Allen M. Lanier and Mary Ann Lanier the census enumerator wrote "twins".
