Services Held For John M. Williams, 98

Funeral services for John Milton Williams, 98, of Mtn. Grove, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the Little Zion Baptist Church at Denlow with the Revs. Keith Cunningham and Oren Alcorn officiating. Burial was in Denlow Cemetery under direction of Craig-Hurtt Hutsell Dedmon Funeral Home.

A native of the Denlow Community of Douglas County, Mr. Williams died March 1 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston following a long illness.

Born at Denlow May 9, 1884 to George and Lavina Williams, he spent his early years near Denlow and attended school at Denlow. He was married to Anna Belle Upshaw and they lived most of their lives in the Denlow area. They lived in the state of Oregon from 1944 to 1949. In 1967 they moved to their present home in Mtn. Grove.

John accepted the Lord as his personal savior in 1919 and joined the Little Zion Baptist Church of Denlow. He served as a deacon in the church for 57 years.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife on April 25, 1980, and by one son, Herman, on Jan. 15, 1980.

Surviving are three sons, James Essell, Aloha, Ore., and Evan Farmer, and Vercalle Nova Gene, both of Mtn. Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Ardith Dobyns, Forest Grove, Ore., Mrs. Faye Swibies, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Jessie Mae Miller, Willow Springs, and Mrs. Della Dooms, Mtn. Grove; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
