Obituary | "Miss Nona Hughes, 79, retired stenographer and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howell R. Hughes, for whom Hughes Springs was named, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Steed Hospital. Funeral services are to be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Reeder-Watson-Davis chapel. Rev. Ben Anderson is to conduct the rites. Burial is to be in Hughes Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers are to be her nephews: Birch Hughes, Preston Hughes, Frank Ashley, Finis Lineberger, Guy Darby, Charlie Brock, Pat Malone, Bobby Joe Lineberger and Bill Booker. She attended Hughes Springs schools, and she attended college in Meridian, Mississippi. She did abstract work in Durant, and elsewhere in Oklahoma until her retirement in 1937. She was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. H.D. Ashley and Mrs. Fred Norwood, both of Hughes Springs; two brothers, George Hughes, of Hughes Springs and Rev. C.P. Hughes, of Council Bluff, Iowa."
