Edwin (Ed) J. Ward, 81 of Midland, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017.

The family will be accepting guests at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Monday, October 9, 2017, from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Funeral services will be at Crestview Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Resthaven North Cemetery.

Ed was born on August 2, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Charles J. and Marie Ward.

Ed graduated from Rankin High School in 1953.

He married Billie Jones July 17, 1953.

They moved to Lindsey, Oklahoma that year where he worked in the oil field. They moved back to West Texas in 1955.

Ed and Billie had three children; Randell, Pamela and Traci.

Ed was a Midland Police Officer. He retired as a Detective Lieutenant after 24 years of service.

Ed was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge of Midland.

He enjoyed mentoring and instructing fellow members of the lodge.

Ed was a loving, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was a wonderful man of great character.

He had a kind and generous heart.

He always looked for the best in people and taught his children and grandchildren to do the same.

He will be greatly missed.

Ed is survived by his wife, Billie Ward; children, Randell Ward and Traci Conner; and one sibling, June Cook. Ed was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Ward; his daughter Pamela Chesnut; and his granddaughter Laura Claire Conner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks towards Home Care Assistance of West Texas, Hospice of Midland, Crestview Baptist Church and many friends.
