Andrew was born in Lewis County, KY the son of William Boggess Secrest and Catherine Ingraham Secrest. He was married first to Elizabeth Pell(1830-1856) on March 18, 1852 in Lewis County, KY with whom he had three children - Missouri Belle Secrest (1853-1925), Oscar B. Secrest (1855-1878) and Mary Secrest (1856-1856). After the death of his wife, his left his three children in the care of their maternal grandparents and he relocated to White River, Johnson County, IN. He remarried between 1856 and 1860 to Rebecca ?? with whom he had a son, Charles R. Secrest (1866-1913).
