Born Aug. 20, 1917, in Smithfield, Utah, to Hyrum Olney and Maude Millie Merrill, she was the last of 10 children. Other than a few years spent in California during the Depression while she was a youth, her home has been in Cache Valley. The last 52 years, she and her husband, Taylor Carlyle Hutton, have resided in Hyrum.
Ora had a very strong work ethic and a winning smile for all who knew her. She worked at the old Cache Valley Hospital in Logan as a nurse for many years and also for Dr. J. Paul Burgess in the Hyrum office for many years. Her friendly and cheerful personality endeared her to others.
She was actively involved in the American Legion until her illness restricted her. She was known for her organizing abilities and delicious home cooking for all events. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and served in many positions throughout her lifetime, some she was especially fond of were teaching first-aid and nursing in Relief Society, drama director and faithfully doing her visiting teaching.
Ora is survived by her husband, Taylor Carlyle; three daughters, Karen Saltern, Hyrum, Cynde (Hyrum) Covert, Okla., Peggy (Val) Sanders, Paradise; and one son, Robert Glen Lundberg, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She has one older sister living in California, Alice LaVoil Abbey. She was preceded in death by her eight brothers, LeRoy, Merlin, Lorin, Gerrald (Bud), Davis, Boyd, Fernard and Harry Olney.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Hyrum 7th Ward Chapel, 190 N. Main St. in Hyrum, with Bishop Waechtler conducting.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the church prior to funeral services.
Interment will be in the Hyrum Cemetery.
