Richard Duane Bear, age 68, of Carlisle, passed into eternal life Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

He was born December 18, 1948 in Carlisle to the late Oren and Florence (Barrick) Bear.

Richard graduated from Carlisle High School, Class of 1966 where he took auto shop. He worked at and operated Thumma’s Gulf and Richard’s Gulf on S. Hanover Street, Carlisle for 25 years. He also worked for Penn D.O.T. for 18 years and retired in 2010. Richard was a member of the Elks, BPO Lodge #578 for 43 years and the White Circle Club. He was also very involved with local softball for more than 20 years.

He is survived by: his loving, longtime companion, Sally Ann Heberlig of Carlisle; two sons, Rich (wife Dawn) Bear and Scott Bear, all of Carlisle; grandchildren, Kylie, Austin, Taylor, Owen and Aiden; great-grandchild, Greyson; and best friends, Pete and Sue.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Edward L. Rosenberry officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family at the North Middleton Church of God Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
