Thomas Hope MURRAY was leasing Goathurst Farm, Te Ore Ore, Wellington. On the evening of 8 May 1888, he accidentally fell down a 15-ft (4-metre) bank on Ohiro Road and later died in hospital of his injuries. Mr Murray was well known in the Wairarapa; he was a former owner of a station at Te Ore Ore, Masterton, and frequently judged stock at the Carterton Agricultural Show.
