He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Milton and Alice Rountree Goodson I; brother, Howard Goodson and his son, William Ludlam "Lud" Goodson. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Alice Ludlam Goodson; daughters, Amy Alice Shaw (Rev. Dennis), sisters-in-law, Lynette Friend and Hilda Goodson; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
