NORTH VERNON, IN - Lila Bartlett Allain was born February 20, 1922 in Lamesa, Texas of Daniel and Bertha Bartlett. She went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2006 in North Vernon, Indiana. Services will be conducted at Centuries Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday July 29, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. W.T. Permenter, a long time friend of Lila's.
Mrs. Allain graduated from Texas State College for Women (T.W.U.) in Denton, Texas. She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1942 to work for United Gas. Lila's roommate, Georgine Roberts had a handsome cousin in training at Barksdale Air Force Base, Martin D. Allain. Lila and Martin married September 27, 1942. After W.W.II Martin returned to Louisiana to become a Pediatrician setting up his practice in Shreveport. Dr. Martin D. Allain passed away April 14, 1994.
Lila will be remembered for the lovely fruit baskets and flowers she delivered to those she loved. She loved visiting the elderly, cooking for the sick, and giving to those in need. She always shared her strong faith and offered hospitality to those who entered her home. Her first and foremost desire was to love and serve the Lord God.
She is survived by two sons, Martin D. Allain, Jr. and wife Jane Ann of North Vernon, Indiana, Wade H. Allain, M.D. of Shreveport, Louisiana; one daughter, Lila Allain Nickel and husband James D. of Wenatchee, Washington. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Martin D. Allain,III, James D. Allain, Katherine Nicole Allain, and David H. Allain (and their mother Susan Allain Kolniak), Daniel Nickel, Joy Nickel, and Margaret Nickel.
