Irene Temples, age 94 of Manheim, Pennsylvania, formerly of Oakland, passed away at 11:58 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2007 at Pleasantview Retirement Community in Manheim, Pennsylvania.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 8 at Standard Funeral Home in Oakland. Reverend Charles Shelquist will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Wednesday, March 7 at Standard Funeral Home, where the family will be present for visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Ester Irene Hunt was born on July 19, 1912 in Oakland, the daughter of Sherman and Lily Vick Hunt. She was educated in the Oakland area, and graduated from Oakland High School. On July 20, 1930 she married George M. Temples in Oakland, and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1987.
Survivors include one son, David Temples and wife Sandra of Port St. Lucie, Florida; four grandchildren, Kim Temples, Michele Sturtecky and husband Ken, Carolyn Jones and husband Tom, and Brian Temples; three great-granddaughters, Amber, Sara, and Emma Sturtecky; and son-in-law Frank Loss.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one daughter, and one sister.
Irene had worked as a secretary for Tom Petty Insurance in Oakland, and later for the Illinois Water Company in Champaign, where she retired in 1976. She was a member of the Oakland Order of the Eastern Star #420, and the Presbyterian Church of Champaign. She was very physically active after her retirement, and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
