A kind and gentle soul made her way into heaven on September 22, 2017. Pauline was born in New Bern and lived most of her life in this community. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed life to the fullest. She married Marion Douglas Cumbo (1932 - 2015) at the age of 16 and later graduated from Jones Central High School. They enjoyed a long happy marriage for over 59 years. They owned and operated Cumbo's Superette for over 20 years serving the needs of local residents. A long time antique dealer, she delighted in finding lost treasures to resale at local venues. She served her family, was an active member of Broad Street Christian Church and helped with Faith Connection.

She enjoyed spending time with all of her family and friends and will surely be missed by all who knew her. Complications from recent surgery led to an unexpected end of a joyful well lived life. Pauline is survived by children Douglas Kennon Cumbo and Paula Cumbo Carrier, grandchildren Nicholas Kennon Cumbo, Caroline Arthur Carrier and Wesley Bradford Carrier. Preceded in death by her brother, Owen Kennon Arthur, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home and a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Broad Street Christian Church. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broad Street Christian Church or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

The family wishes to thank all of her friends and family for their support during this long period of illness and also the ICU doctors, nurses and staff at Carolina East Medical Center who provided professional and compassionate care for her.

Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
