Mr. Madden, age 77, who resided at 5136 Kiser Lake Road, Conover, died at 9:08 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 1992, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1914, in McGrath, Minn., a son of Henry Lawrence and Minnie Elizabeth Wicklund Madden. He married Martha Ellen Moots on March 1, 1941, in Bellefontaine, and she survives.
A retired farmer, Mr. Madden graduated in 1934 from DeGraff High School, where he was active in sports, having played on the basketball and baseball teams. His interests in sports continued after he graduated.
He was a member of the Rosewood United Methodist Church and the Miami Grange 2158, DeGraff. He worked as a machinist and at one time owned his own shop.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Judith A.) Walker of Casstown and Mrs. Craig (Joyce E.) Morris of Chapin, S.C.; two sons, Thomas L. Madden of Dayton and Dale E. Madden of DeGraff; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson; five step grandchildren; and four great-step grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Clark of Seal Beach, Calif. and Mrs. Frederick (Doris) McGowan of Jackson Center; one brother, Floyd Madden of Kettering; and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Buchenroth, Bernice Madden and Hazel Madden and five brothers, William, Lyman, Glen, Roy and Robert Madden.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or the Tricare Hospice.
