Cyrus Van King, of Stockton, MO, passed away on September 25th, 2017 at the age of 81 years.

Cy was born in Cape Fair, Missouri to Clyde and Hattie (Miller) King on February 28th, 1936. He began school in a one room school house in Cape Fair, Missouri and continued school at Galena, Missouri when his family moved. Cy attended high school at what is now called College of the Ozarks--at that time it was a boarding school. Cy helped to build many of the buildings and the lake, that are still on the school’s campus.

He married his sweetheart and love of his life, Donna (Baker) King on August 14, 1954. To this marriage three children were born, Randall Troy, Cynthia Lea, and Pamela Jo. Cy was blessed with seven grandchildren; Vanessa Marie (King) Carney; Melanie Lea (King) Gibson, Matthew Scott Burres; Kaleb Troy King; Jessica Dawn (Engleman) Laub; Nicholas Kirt Engleman; and Vanielle Nicole Burres; and 10 great grandchildren.

Cy was a hard working man. He delivered bread, was a contract carpenter for years, worked for Carnahan Fence Company building fence, and in 1969 bought a freight route and moved his family from Springfield, Missouri to Stockton, Missouri, where he lived the remainder of his life. After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Stockton School district for many years. He loved coming home and telling stories about the kids on his bus. He loved each one of them and would have done anything to keep them safe while they were under his supervision. His last job was “newspaper boy”, throwing the Springfield News Leader from 1982 until illness prevented him from continuing.

He loved sports and as a young man was approached to play baseball for the New York Yankees. He chose instead to devote his life to raising his family. He continued his love for sports by coaching baseball and basketball. Many young boys learned a great deal from Cy, not only about the skills for playing ball, but life skills for being godly young men.

Cy was loved by his children and still referred to as “Daddy” by his girls, Cindy and Pam. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He would do anything for his family and friends; he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Cy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Hattie King, sister Joyce Eutsler, infant sister Connie Esther, grandparents Finnis and Pearl King (who raised him after the loss of his mother, who passed following childbirth).

Cy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna (Baker) King; son, Randall Troy King and wife Tammy; daughter Cynthia Lea Burres, daughter, Pamela Jo Engleman and husband Gary; all of Stockton, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Wednesday, September 27th at 10:00 am with funeral service following at 11:00 am both held at Stockton Assembly of God Church in Stockton, MO. Burial will follow at Stockton Cemetery. Arrangements are by Bland-Brumback Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Kaleb King, Matthew Burres, Nick Engleman, Stephen Laub, Duane Gibson, and Alton Carney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Cy King to the Stockton Assembly of God Church in Stockton, Missouri to be used for the youth program and sponsorships to children’s summer church camp.
